Ghana to Begin Nationwide SIM Re-Registration Exercise
The Government of Ghana has announced plans to commence a new nationwide SIM card re-registration exercise aimed at strengthening national security, reducing telecom fraud, and improving data integrity across mobile networks.
According to the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, the upcoming exercise will introduce live biometric verification against the National Identification Authority (NIA) database, alongside flexible self-service options to minimize queues and inconvenience to citizens.
The government also intends to lay a Legislative Instrument (LI) before Parliament to provide a clear legal framework, ensure data protection, and address challenges encountered in previous SIM registration efforts.
The exercise will be implemented by the National Communications Authority (NCA) in collaboration with telecom operators nationwide.
